Memoral Stupa at Choeung Ek Genocidal Center

Memoral Stupa at Choeung Ek Genocidal Center

Prisoners from S-21 were transported and exterminated to avoid wasting precious bullets at the Killing Fields of Cheung Ek, a once orchard. There are 129 mass graves, a chilling reminder of the brutalities of the genocidal Khmer Rouge regiment.
This 17 story glass stupa houses 8000 skulls exhumed from mass grave. It was disturbing for me to sketch this but I did it. I wanted to remind myself what another fellow human is capable to do to another. Are we ever going to learn from history?

A pencil and watercolour sketch, approx. 38 x 20 cm (H X W)
